Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical dental hygiene procedures, including cleaning, scaling, root planing, and polishing teeth, while adhering to the highest standards of care and hygiene.
  • Assess patients’ oral health, reviewing their dental history, and planning appropriate treatments in consultation with the dentist.
  • Apply preventive materials to teeth, such as sealants and fluorides, and educate patients on maintaining good oral health practices.
  • Take dental radiographs (X-rays) and provide the dentist with data about patients' oral health to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records and document patient care services by charting in patient records.
  • Ensure compliance with procedures, protocols, and safety policies, keeping the dental operatory clean and well-stocked.
  • Gather medical and dental histories and vital signs from patients, ensuring a thorough understanding of their health and any potential treatment risks.
  • Guide patients through the treatment process before, during, and after dental procedures, offering reassurance and support throughout.
  • Work collaboratively with dentists to discuss treatment plans and patient care.
  • Stay updated with advancements in dental hygiene and participate in educational workshops to enhance professional knowledge and skills.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited dental hygiene educational program.
  • Current state licensure as a Dental Hygienist and certification for administering local anesthetics and nitrous oxide.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Dental Hygienist.
  • Strong clinical skills with the ability to perform all necessary dental hygiene procedures.
  • Proficient in digital radiography and dental management software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to educate and motivate patients about oral health.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certification.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain patient confidentiality and sensitivity in all interactions.
  • Strong commitment to adhering to all safety and infection control standards.
  • A patient-centric approach with the ability to deliver both efficient and high-quality patient care.
  • Flexible availability to work during hours of operation, including some evenings and weekends.
