ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Remove decay from teeth and fill cavities.
-Repair cracked or fractured teeth and remove teeth.
-Some procedures may involve limited performance of minor oral surgery
-Place sealants or whitening agents on teeth
-Ensure the safe administration of anesthetics to keep patients from feeling pain during procedures.
-Write prescriptions for antibiotics or other medications
-Examine x rays of teeth, gums, the jaw, and nearby oral areas for problems
-Make models and measurements for dental appliances, such as crowns, bridges, dentures, etc.
-Elicits and records information about patient's dental history utilizing the established electronic medical record software system
-Performs oral examinations to determine general oral health condition. This includes a check of muscles in the head, neck, jaw, tongue, and salivary glands for any problems. During exam check for (in mouth) lumps, swellings, discolorations, ulcerations - any abnormality.
-Teach patients about diet, flossing, use of fluoride, and other aspects of proper dental care
-Orders, oversees and interprets various tests and diagnostic images. This may be requested should a dental exam reveal
-Documents patient electronic dental records (charts) in a timely and appropriate manner
-Correctly and proficiently use a variety of equipment, including x ray machines, drills, mouth mirrors, probes, forceps, brushes, and scalpels. This includes lasers, digital scanners, and other computer technology
-Create/develop treatment plans to maintain or restore the oral health of patients
-Adheres to all established quality protocols
-Refers patients to various dental specialists for specialized treatment
-Oversight of the clinical staff to help ensure patient safe and effective oral care.
-Assists with dental in-service training for staff
-Provides back-up coverage for other MedLink sites
-Serves on appropriate organization committees and teams
-Participates in community health promotion projects
-Pursues activities of community involvement to increase awareness of and insure the positive image of MedLink Georgia and the dental center to which they are assigned
-Attends local dental conferences and meetings
-Participates in the corporation's Quality Assurance Program and adheres to all established quality protocols
-Other duties as may be assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides consultation, collaboration/supervision and direction to supportive clinical personnel including Dental Assistant, Dental Hygienist, etc.

QUALITIES
Communication skills. Must have excellent communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and receptionists.
Detail oriented. Must be detail oriented so patients receive appropriate treatments and medications. Must pay attention to space, shape, and color of teeth.
Dexterity. Must be good at working with one's hands. Work with tools in a limited area.
Organizational skills. Strong organizational skills, including keeping accurate records of patient care, are critical in both medical and business settings.
Patience. May work for long periods of time with patients who need special attention. Children and patients with a fear of dental work may require a lot of patience.
Physical stamina. Should be comfortable performing physical tasks, such as bending over patients for long periods.
Problem-solving skills. Strong problem-solving skills. Must evaluate patients' symptoms and choose the appropriate treatments.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an approved school of dentistry. Successful completion of a national written and/or state licensing examination.
