Berkeley Medical Center serves the community as a 195-bed non-profit acute care hospital. BMC offers full radiology services including MRI, PET, nuclear medicine and interventional radiology; a wound care center with two hyperbaric chambers, a Level III NICU, a 20-bed ICU, oncology services, neurosurgery services (including a Mazor robot) and a Cardiac Cath Lab. BMC recently expanded OR services by adding four new outpatient ORs and five new ORs in the main hospital. Together with WVU Medicine Jefferson Medical Center and our network of outpatient primary and specialty care clinics across the Eastern Panhandle, we comprise WVU Hospitals East, a not-for-profit system committed to delivering high-quality care close to home.
Our Eastern Panhandle location is a little more than an hour from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD. A rural atmosphere and lower cost of living mixed with the easy accessibility to the Washington, D.C. / Baltimore areas, make the Eastern Panhandle an ideal place to live. While Berkeley County is the fastest growing county in the state, there is little congestion and traffic. In recent years, a steady influx of urban professionals from nearby Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD have contributed to the growth of local telecommuting and high-tech industries.
WVU Medicine is West Virginia University’s affiliated health system, West Virginia’s largest private employer, and a national leader in patient safety and quality. The WVU Health System is comprised of a network of 25 hospitals and their affiliated clinics, anchored by its flagship hospital, J.W. Ruby Memorial in Morgantown, an 881-bed academic medical center that offers tertiary and quaternary care. The WVU Medicine System has more than 35,000 employees, 4,000 clinicians, and serves hundreds of thousands of people annually from across the region and the nation with more than 4.5 million patient visits annually.
