ROLE TYPE: Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY:

The Family Medicine/Pediatric Physician will provide primary care services for adults and/or families, according to certification, in Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) settings to diverse and underserved populations. The Physician will report to the Medical Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide primary care services.
  • Work within all state/federal laws and regulations and collaborating physician agreements.
  • Manage acute and chronic health problems using evidence-based protocols.
  • Provide health screenings, immunizations, and other disease prevention programs.
  • Advance the nursing profession and role of advanced practice nurses in medically underserved areas through advocacy and other professional activities.
  • Notify immediate supervisor of significant problems.
  • Provide age-appropriate assessment and interventions to meet the needs of patients and/or families served.
  • Provide education, health counseling, and health advocacy services to patients and/or their families.
  • Be willing to work occasional weekends.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff on care and follow-up.
  • Participate, as needed, in public health management of communicable diseases in shelters and in other health initiatives.
  • Maintain positive relationships with funding sources and community organizations.
  • Work as a member of the Primary Care Medical Home team to provide integrated health services.
  • Document all services in a timely manner.
  • Act in the capacity of a mandated reporter to both the State of Pennsylvania and the Joint Commission.
  • Perform other related tasks and duties as directed and assigned.

  • Understand and adhere to PHMC compliance standards as they appear in the PHMC Code of Conduct, Whistleblower, and Conflict of Interest policies.
  • Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and PHMC regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Comply with HIPAA and confidentiality policies and procedures as they apply to the job.
  • Comply with the standards of the Department of Public Health (DPH), the Joint Commission, and other accreditation and regulatory agencies.
  • Adhere to all PHMC policies and procedures.
  • Understand and adhere to Infection Control and Environment of Care guidelines and procedures as described in the annual education module.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

SKILLS:

  • Understanding of the principles of community health care and service to special populations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including friendliness and empathy
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of current healthcare needs and issues of children, adolescents, and adults
  • Ability to collect adequate client data, conduct a physical exam, interpret physical findings, and manage or refer patients as conditions or protocols dictate
  • Cultural competence
  • Preferred: Spanish language skills
  • Basic Life Support certification

EDUCATION & LICENSURE:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited school of medicine required
  • Completion of a three-year accredited medical residency program required
  • Must be board certified or board eligible in family medicine or pediatrics
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in Pennsylvania required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five years of clinical experience
  • Experience in ambulatory primary care, community health, and/or behavioral health required
  • Preferred: Supervisory experience

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Eligibility for staff privileges to local hospitals associated with the health center
  • DEA license
  • Ability to travel between worksites as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position requires: standing 2/3 of the time; walking 2/3 of the time; sitting under 1/3 of the time; use of hands to finger, handle or feel 2/3 of the time; reaching with hands and arms under 1/3 of the time; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling under 1/3 of the time; talking and hearing over 2/3 of the time; and lifting up to 10 lbs. up to 1/3 of the time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Moderate noise (e.g., business office with computers and printers, light traffic)
  • Exposure to blood-borne pathogens requiring use of personal protective equipment
