Job Description

This position is in support of the County of Sarasota Florida to provide care for those with special needs who are displaced in the event of a largescale disaster. This position requires the individual to be able to respond to a disaster with in 24 hours of notice to establish care with in 72 hours of notification. This is a post disaster mission and will require the individual to be onsite until conclusion of the operation.   

The Physician Team Leader is responsible for the overall effort of the medical team, management of personnel, coordination with county officials and clinical governance of the project. This position is also the sole Licensed Provider for the project and fully responsible for patient care. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads the team during the deployment.  
  • Responsible for communication with the Shelter manager and stake holders.  
  • Responsible for medical oversight of the team. 
  • Establish the Risk and Quality Management program. 
  • Conduct all interaction with County Leaders and the Shelter managers.   
  • Ensures required reports are delivered.  
  • Issues prescriptions as needed to citizens under care in the shelter. 
  • Develops patient care plans as required.  
  • Issues prescriptions as needed. 
  • Is accountable for maintaining and improving own physician knowledge and skill competence.  
  • Provides patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients in the clinic.   
  • Supports the International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. philosophy, objectives and goals and Organization mission and vision.  
  • Respects and supports patient rights.  
  • Promotes and practices positive customer and peer relations and cost containment for the Emergency Department.  
  • Fosters constructive relationships as a team member within the Emergency department and with the members of other departments.  
  • Maintains professional conduct.  
  • Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures. Strong background in computer skills desired.  
  • Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.  
  • Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

Experience Required: 

  • Familiarity with the treatment of special needs populations. 
  • Competency in performing medical procedures within the scope of practice. 
  • Ability to triage and handle multiple patients simultaneously. 
  • Ability to multi-task effectively, prioritizes and execute against multiple priorities. 
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and functional disciplines. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong PC/Microsoft Office applications background. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Strong team building and team-member skills. 
  • Excellent data entry skills. 

Education Required: 

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Physician; preferably in a remote/austere environment.   
  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine or Family Practice.   

Required Licenses / Certifications:  

  • Current and unrestricted license in the state of Florida. 
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS and PALS.  
  • DEA License.   

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Understanding of medical operations and care in an austere environment.  
  • Understanding of “Special Needs” populations (Preferred).  
  • Ability to navigate in an electronic work environment including electronic health records, web-based training and communications.  
  • Knowledge of, and moderate proficiency in, common Microsoft Office programs, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint.  
  • Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII). 
  • Demonstrate strong organization and time management skills. 
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Cultural competency and interpersonal skills. 

Duty Hours / ON-Call Requirements: 

  • This an upon notification position. 
  • Shifts will be 12 hours a day until complete. 

Physical Demands: 

  • Physically capable of performing duties and responsibilities as listed above. 
  • Ability to work in an austere environment exposure to heat and weather. 
  • Frequent use of common office technology such as the computer, telephone etc.  
  • Ability to lift, carry and move up to 30 lbs.  

Travel / Rotation Requirements: 

  • Travel to Sarasota upon notification.
