This role will be Full-Time, Monday-Friday; Required: 5-6 Days On-Call per Month; Travel when on call may involve all 5 Inova Main Hospital Locations + Inova Woodburn. Registered Nurse First Assistant Job Responsibilities:
- Formulates individualized plans of care for patients with complex needs to achieve desired outcomes. Serves in a lead role in coordinating the care of patients and the team process. Delegates patient care activities to other healthcare team members and redirects unit activities as patient acuity and census change.
- Collects and interprets complex assessment data while recognizing subtle changes in patients. Shares data with team and supports surgeons.
- Collaborates with the surgery team and other disciplines to meet desired patient outcomes. Communicates effectively and seeks out opportunities to improve communication among healthcare team members, patients and families.
- Actively participates as a member of the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) team and committees.
- May serve as charge nurse by coordinating staff/surgery schedules and handling daily issues with positive outcomes.
- Serves as lead, role model, clinical resource and mentor to the team. Evaluates staff on practice delivery and recommends additional education if needed. Assesses learning needs and helps to facilitate appropriate training.
- Collaborates with team members in the development and implementation of education plans. May serve as preceptor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: BSN or AD. If RN has an AD, within 2 years from date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1.) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend 2.) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date 3.) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses 4.) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date; Successful completion of an RFNA program that meets AORN recommended education standards for RN First Assistant programs.

Experience: 5 years of Perioperative Nursing experience as both a scrub and circulating nurse or three recommendations from practicing, surgeons and demonstrated clinical practice in the case of less than five years of experience

Certification: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Certified Nurse Operating Room, Seeks CRNFA certification; Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license
