The Labor & Delivery unit at Wilson Medical Center provides comprehensive care for mothers and newborns throughout the childbirth experience. Our team supports labor, delivery, recovery, and immediate postpartum care while collaborating closely with physicians, anesthesia, nursery, and support services. The Lead Clinical Nurse plays a key role in coordinating workflow, supporting staff, and ensuring safe, high‑quality care for patients and families.
How you’ll contribute
A Lead Clinical Nurse (RN), who excels in this role:
- Oversees clinical operations of the unit during assigned shifts under the direction of the Unit Manager
- Ensures staff compliance with policies, procedures, Joint Commission, CMS, and regulatory standards
- Assists with staffing, scheduling adjustments, and resource allocation to maintain safe patient care
- Monitors patient flow, admissions, transfers, and discharges to support efficient operations
- Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary partners to ensure timely, effective patient care
- Provides real‑time coaching, support, and on‑the‑spot education to staff
- Participates in staff development, competency reinforcement, and identification of training needs
- Investigates complaints, errors, and operational issues and initiates appropriate corrective actions
- Ensures accurate, timely documentation and completion of required clinical records
- Supports performance improvement activities, data collection, and quality initiatives
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and the care team
- Assigns and delegates patient care based on patient needs, staff competencies, and scope of practice
- Serves as a resource, role model, and leader at the point of care
- Participates in departmental and hospital support activities, including emergency response and committee involvement

What we’re looking for
A compassionate, experienced nurse with strong leadership skills, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to guide staff while ensuring safe, high‑quality care in a fast‑paced L&D environment.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program
- At least two years of professional nursing experience
- Current RN license (state of NC)
- BLS required (within first week of hire)
- ACLS, PALS, and NRP required within 6 months of hire
- Professional certification in specialty area preferred within first year (e.g., C-EFM, RNC-OB)
- Completion of Clinical Leadership/Clinical Lead Education Training required
