Registered or Certified Respiratory Therapist

 

Responsible for supporting, treating, and maintaining the respiratory system and providing respiratory therapy for all ages as ordered by a physician, according to established standards and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Administration of oxygen, respiratory medicines, bronchial hygiene, RCAT (Respiratory care and treatment protocol), and collection of blood for arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis for all ages as ordered by provider.
  • Maintenance of invasive and non-invasive ventilators. Assists in airway management for all ages.
  • Assistance with cardiac stress testing, bronchoscopy and specimens from procedure with privileged provider supervision.
  • Performing EKG's and bedside monitoring of patient’s vital signs as ordered by provider, and assessment of the respiratory system for all ages.
  • Ability to do pulmonary function testing with proper training.
  • Responds to all Medical Emergency, Rapid Response, STEMI and Trauma calls.
  • Must travel to patients on various nursing units.
  • Emergent, urgent or CPR situation intubation and airway management with initial and ongoing competency, overseen by anesthesia.
  • Education of students, certified respiratory therapist and nursing on respiratory related matters.

Qualifications

Respiratory Therapist- Registered: 

  • Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Licensed in the state of Iowa as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the NBRC at time of hire.
  • Maintains Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the NBRC preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, read, writes, comprehends and speaks English.

Respiratory Therapist- Certified:

  • Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy. 
  • Licensed in the state of Iowa as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Maintains Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with the NBRC.
  • Basic computer skills, read, writes, comprehends and speaks English.
