The Pharmacist - Staff is responsible for assisting with the supervision of medication management in the hospital. This will include dispensing, policies, procedures, state, and federal regulations, financial and fiduciary, supervision of any hospital pharmacy staff, and clinical responsibilities. The Pharmacist – Staff reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Pharmacist – Staff will be directly responsible for the practice of pharmacy in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code and all applicable Federal laws dictating the practice of pharmacy.
- Adheres to written policies of the hospital.
- Coordinate appropriate dispensing of medications.
- Generate and update policies and procedures that are within the scope of pharmacy practice.
- Work with medication suppliers and wholesalers to ensure the facility is obtaining the best value for medications.
- Develops new pharmacy initiatives.
- The Staff Pharmacist assists with the integration of the pharmacy into the primary functions of the Hospital.
- Coordinates interdepartmental and intradepartmental services.
- Assists in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures that promote appropriate, safe, and cost-effective medication use to build an environment conducive to patient and personnel safety.
- Assists in developing a qualified and competent department. Promotes staff development.
- Develops, implements, and maintains programs that improve the quality of pharmacy services and support the quality improvement plan of the Hospital.
- Ensures maintenance and integrity of an adequate medication supply.
- Ensures control and accountability for medication distribution and dispensing including controlled substances.
- Provides and monitors a patient charge system in compliance with policy and procedures.
- Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the pharmacy budget. Plans for future needs.16. Knowledge of internal control responsibilities. Is responsible and accountable for internal control performance within their area of responsibility. Ensures concerns with internal control design or performance are communicated to management.
- Ensures process changes that impact internal control execution are communicated to management.
- Participates in the internal controls self-assessment process.
- Coordinate internal control failure remediation efforts.
- Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Communicates courteously and effectively with patients, physicians, co-workers, and the public.
- Participates in the orientation of new employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to lead, strategize and be a tactician.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Competency in oral and written skills.
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
- PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with appropriate experience from an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy. MS in Pharmacy Science or MBA strongly preferred.
- Registration and licensure current with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, or the ability to become licensed. License must be in good standing.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years experience in health-system pharmacy setting preferred.
