Position Summary:
The Staff Physician will provide clinical care to Rice University students. Physicians are responsible for the management of patients (students) within Student Health Services (SHS). The staff physician will also provide input as part of a team that manages campus-wide health issues (e.g., public health, disease outbreaks, etc.). The physician must be aware of the special needs of a diverse college population (graduate and undergraduate students). The staff physician will maintain appropriate licensure and CME requirements at the local, state, and national levels. S/he will continuously develop and improve skills and knowledge toward excellence in the field of medicine, as well as assist the director in managing SHS workflow and staffing issues, and perform any other tasks needed to provide excellent healthcare to our students.

Workplace Requirements:
This position is benefits-eligible, part-time (.90 FTE at 36 hours per week, year-round), and exclusively on-site, requiring all duties to be performed in person at Rice University. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range: $175,000 - $180,000 annually, contingent upon qualifications and experience.
*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD) or Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution and licensure to practice medicine in Texas
3+ years of postdoctoral experience in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, or a related primary care specialty
3 years of residency training and board eligibility or certification in Family Practice or Internal Medicine
Registration with the Texas DPS and the DEA for appropriate prescription writing

Ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a team environment
Knowledge of health education programs, policies, and trends

Essential Functions:
Provide and facilitate comprehensive primary care to students, including acute, chronic, and preventive services
Ensure continuity and quality of care, including follow-ups and referrals to specialists, community providers, or emergency care when appropriate
Conduct physical exams, diagnose conditions, and develop evidence-based treatment plans
Prescribe medications and monitor effectiveness and side effects
Deliver sexual and reproductive health services, including STI screening and contraception counseling
Diagnose and refer common mental health concerns and coordinate care with counseling services as needed
Follow up on test results, imaging, and patient progress in a timely manner
Complete required documentation for immunizations, forms, and clearances
Counsel students on health maintenance, risk reduction, and lifestyle behaviors
Provide education on topics such as nutrition, substance use, sleep, and stress management
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records in the electronic health record (EHR)
Maintain appropriate licensure and CME requirements at the local, state, and national levels
Collaborate with university departments such as Rice Counseling Center, Student Disability Resource Center, Student Wellbeing Office, The SAFE Office, Athletics, and Study Abroad
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., licensure, HIPAA, OSHA)
Provide clinical care for Rice University students

Collaborate with nurses, medical assistants, and behavioral health providers to ensure coordinated care
Participate in campus outreach or wellness initiatives as needed
Perform related duties as required to meet departmental, divisional, and university goals and objectives, as assigned by the director
Additional Functions:
Support campus-wide health promotion and disease prevention initiatives
Assist with event development and planning, including training and engagement
Assist with preparing for large capital improvement projects
Provide feedback on policies regarding the management of general operations
Adhere to clinical protocols, university policies, and legal/regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA)
Follow infection control and patient safety standards
Participate in quality improvement activities and clinical reviews when requested
Stay current with clinical guidelines and best practices
Provide culturally competent, inclusive, and student-centered care
Maintain appropriate licensure, certification, and continuing medical education (CME)
Communicate effectively with patients, families (when appropriate), and colleagues
