Role 

Join our team as Staff veterinarian and make a meaningful impact in a dynamic and fast-paced laboratory animal environment. At our Concord, Ohio facility, you will play a crucial role in upholding the highest standards of animal welfare working under the guidance of our Attending Veterinarian. 

In this vital position you will be responsible for the clinical, preventative and surgical care of our research animals, ensuring their well-being and health.  Your contributions will be instrumental in providing veterinary guidance and expertise to groundbreaking research projects, consulting and collaborating with investigators and assisting with facility management.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Clinical Care: providing comprehensive clinical, preventative, surgical care and ensuring the overall well-being of the animals. 
  • Assist  composition and refinement of living documents applicable to Animal Care and Use Program. 
  • Compliance:  Ensuring compliance with federal regulations and international standards/guidelines related to animal welfare.  
  • Maintaining compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 
  • Assist with preparation and submission of all reports to proper agencies to maintain compliance with the law and keep current accreditation status.  
  • Provide technical and scientific expertise to departmental scientists and technicians. 
  • Maintain Personal Documentation Record (curriculum vitae, job description, training record). 
  • Participation in Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). 
  • Review of proposal and protocol design for management and IACUC. 
  • Communication: Maintaining effective communication throughout the establishment regarding animal welfare and associated concerns.        Including fostering an environment where staff feel confident to communicate animal welfare concerns and ensuring that communication is open and transparent. 
  • Maintain and facilitate communication with the Attending Veterinarian, Study Directors, Sponsors, and management as to the status of studies. 
  • Adhere to corporate and departmental Environmental and Occupational Safety policies. 
  • Facilitate cooperation between Drug Safety and other Frontage operating units. 
  • Other responsibilities/duties as assigned. 

Education, skills, and experience 

  • Requires a D.V.M. or V.M.D. degree with 3 years of related experience preferably in a laboratory animal environment 
  • Surgical experience: highly desirable. 
  • Experience with husbandry practices and environmental enrichment plans for small and large research animals 
  • Research experience with broad knowledge of animal models: preferred
  • Experience with GLP regulations and compliance: desirable. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaborative communication style, and professional writing.  
  • Knowledge with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)  and compliance
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Systems is desirable.  
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education.
