The Department of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine, is currently recruiting for the following Acute Services positions affiliated with Yale-New Haven Hospital. Yale-New Haven Hospital is the major teaching and clinical research facility of the Yale University School of Medicine and consistently ranks among the best hospitals in the United States.

Yale-New Haven Hospital encompasses the Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital a 118 bed, acute care, psychiatric facility that consists of five main inpatient programs and several specialized step-down intensive outpatient/day hospital programs for adolescents and adults across two hospital campus locations. These positions carry a faculty appointment within the Department of Psychiatry at the assistant or associate professor level depending upon the candidate s qualifications and experience.

Emergency Psychiatrist to provide emergency psychiatry care throughout the YNHH system. The successful candidate will be BE/BC, addictions fellowship preferred, with an interest in developing scholarship in areas related to emergency psychiatry and the provision of MAT in the psychiatric emergency setting. Opportunities to expand the role beyond the emergency department exist. The position will be a combination of day, night, and weekend hours, offering 20% of academic/administrative protected time (scheduled for 32 clinical hours per 40-hour work week).

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the multidisciplinary evaluation of patients presenting for emergency psychiatric evaluation.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of nurses, social workers, psychiatric residents, and psychiatric APRNs.
  • Providing education to medical students and residents regarding diagnosis, medication management, treatment planning and care of patients in the acute phase of illness is a key component of the position.
  • Manage a schedule combination of day, night, and weekend hours, offering 20% of academic/administrative protected time (scheduled for 32 clinical hours per 40-hour work week).
  • Successfully carry faculty appointment within the Department of Psychiatry at the assistant or associate professor level depending upon the candidate s qualifications and experience
  • Providing comprehensive psychiatric services across various age groups and conditions, including acute psychiatric illnesses.
  • Research Collaboration: Engaging in interdisciplinary research to advance treatment and improve patient outcomes.
  • Educational Leadership: Teaching undergraduate and graduate students and contributing to the development of new scientific knowledge in psychiatry.
  • Innovative Care: Implementing innovative treatments and therapies to address complex psychiatric disorders.

Qualifications:

Assistant Professor

  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in the relevant field (though in some arts disciplines, this may not be required).
  • Promise of high-quality scholarship and teaching.
  • Potential for tenure within 5 7 years.
  • Initial appointments are typically for 5 years

Associate Professor

  • Doctorate in the relevant field (again, exceptions may apply in the arts).
  • Demonstrated scholarly achievement, teaching excellence, and service to the institution.
  • Often promoted from assistant professor but can also be hired externally.
  • Internal promotions usually come with a 4-year term, while external hires may have a 3-5-year term

Licensure:

  • Must hold an M.D. or D.O. and be board-certified or board eligible.
  • Must have or be eligible to receive CT state medical license to practice and/or supervise clinical work.
