The Biomechanical Testing Team in Naples, FL is part of the Research Department and is focused on providing testing and data analysis support to fulfill business needs. We are searching for a six-month Co-op pursuing a Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering undergraduate degree. The ideal candidate will have mechanical laboratory experience, a general knowledge of anatomy, and strong data analysis skills. Daily activities will include mechanical testing of Arthrex products implanted in a custom 3D printed medium, and data-driven analysis of the adequacy of the medium. Additional responsibilities may include but not be limited to test fixture design, cadaveric dissections and sample preparation, verbal and written presentation of test results, and database maintenance. This Co-op will run from January 2026 - June 2026. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 40 hours per week at our Naples, FL facility. Main Objective: To perform tensile, torsion, bending, and compressive loading tests of various Arthrex products implanted in the 3DAnatomy medium. Additionally, cadaveric testing will be performed to provide baseline data for comparison. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform mechanical testing and evaluation involving new and current orthopedic products to ensure reliability and correct functionality. Support test sample preparation of products and cadaveric specimens. Gather raw data through analysis and statistics. Presentation of test results in both verbal and written formats. Database maintenance to help identify test reports used for FDA submissions. Assist in designing custom test fixtures using CAD software. Education and Experience: Enrolled full-time in a Bachelor's degree program pursuing Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering or Mechanical Engineering, or a recent graduate required. A college junior or above required. (Recent graduates must be within six months of their graduation date to qualify.) Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Prior work in a laboratory setting is highly advantageous. Mechanical testing experience involving tensile, torsion, bending, and compression is preferred. Experience with polymer mechanical and chemical testing is preferred. Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training: Basic understanding of metal and polymer properties and mechanical and chemical test equipment preferred. Must be able or willing to use mechanical test lab equipment in a proficient manner to acquire data/test results. Good documentation skills and the ability to write accurate test procedures/summaries/reports upon completion of requested tests required. Experience with 3D CAD software is preferred. Knowledge of basic anatomy and ASTM standards for medical devices a plus. Comfortable working with and around human and animal tissues and blood products required. Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills: Materials Testing Systems. Instron machine experience a plus. CAD software. SolidWorks experience a plus.
