Job Summary: We are seeking a Chief Pharmacist to join our employee benefits consulting team. This consultative leadership role serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on pharmacy benefits and clinical programs. You’ll bring expertise in PBM contracting, 340B programs, and pharmacy operations to strengthen client retention and help grow our book of business. Strong presentation skills and the ability to travel (nationally) are critical for success in this position.

You’ll be responsible for driving strategy, fostering relationships, and delivering clinical and pharmacy guidance to internal teams and external clients/prospects. You’ll also provide pharmacy oversight, shape our point of view in the PBM marketplace, and collaborate with internal teams to develop best-in-class solutions that improve patient outcomes. This role will also contribute to innovation initiatives through Univation Labs, our hub for all employee benefits innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

Pharmacy Expertise & Strategy

  • Act as the internal and client-facing SME on pharmacy benefit design, PBM contracts, and clinical program evaluation
  • Stay current on pharmacy industry trends, innovations, and regulatory developments
  • Identify cost-saving strategies and evaluate ROI of clinical programs
  • Collaborate with URA to build pharmacy benefit strategies aligned to client goals
  • Guide development of clinical solutions for clients’ in-house or contract pharmacy models
  • Serve as an advisor to internal innovation projects through Univation Labs

Contract Evaluation & Clinical Analysis

  • Review and analyze PBM contracts, including rebate guarantees, pricing, and performance terms
  • Analyze pharmacy claims data to identify trends, utilization patterns, and cost drivers
  • Evaluate clinical programs and make evidence-based recommendations to optimize outcomes

Client Consulting & Communication

  • Present findings, benchmarking insights, and high-cost claimant analysis to clients in a clear, strategic manner
  • Provide oversight and guidance for pharmacy-related client needs, including education and support to the sales and service teams
  • Serve as a key voice in client strategy sessions, renewal discussions, and prospect opportunities

Cross-Functional Leadership & Innovation

  • Partner with actuarial, clinical, and account management teams to develop integrated benefit solutions
  • Contribute to risk management strategies within captive programs
  • Advise on MTM (Medication Therapy Management) program development and implementation
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure safety, accuracy, and improved medication adherence

Qualifications:

  • Education & Credentials:
    • PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy)
    • Licensed Pharmacist (preferred but not required).
    •  Additional certifications or specialized training in areas such as pharmacotherapy or medication management
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience in pharmacy benefits, PBM operations, or pharmacy consulting.
    • Experience working with or for a PBM, health plan, or benefits consulting firm is highly desirable.
    • Experience in a clinical setting, like a hospital or managed care organization, is also crucial
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify technical content
    • Strong analytical, financial, and clinical decision-making skills
    • Confident presenter; ability to influence prospective and current clients
    • Proficiency in Excel and data tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
    • Ability to evaluate medication regimens and identify safety, efficacy, and cost issues
    • Skilled in medication therapy analysis and resolving medication-related problems
    • Exceptional attention to accuracy in pharmacy records and compliance
    • Proficiency in Excel and data tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
    • Experience implementing and evaluating MTM programs
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals and internal teams
