JOB SUMMARY: 


The Dental Hygienist is a professional with a friendly attitude and the ability to help treat clients and promote good oral health practices. Dental Hygienist duties revolve around conducting initial client screenings, cleaning teeth (e.g. removing plaque) and advising clients on oral health and preventative care. Hygienists help Dentists decide treatments for teeth or gum diseases and handle dental emergencies. The Hygienist must be reliable and able to build trust with clients as well as have a deep knowledge of relevant health and safety rules and a good eye for oral diseases and anomalies.

Summary of General Duties:

  •  Ensures patients feel as comfortable as possible before their examination
  • Conducts initial mouth screenings and check oral health history
  • Identifies conditions like gingivitis or periodontitis. Cleans and helps protect clients’ teeth (e.g. remove plaque or apply fluoride)
  • Educates clients on proper tooth care (by demonstrating, for example, good brushing techniques)
  • Gives instructions to clients after dental procedures
  • Take X-rays or dental impressions
  • Assists Dentists with selecting appropriate treatments for various diseases
  • Maintains documentation and charts on each client
  • Monitors supplies and coordinates re-ordering as needed
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experienced in working with culturally diverse populations
  • Must have great communication skills, (writing, spelling, listening and speaking) and interpersonal skills
  • Must have strong computer and database system skills, and have a positive, friendly and helpful demeanor
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and warm personality
  • Proven experience as Dental Hygienist
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in this profession (e.g. HIPAA)
  • Experience in sterilizing, preparing and maintaining dental equipment

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of Dental Hygiene experience is required. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene is also required. A Master’s Degree in Dental Hygiene is a plus. 
  • Dental Hygiene License is also required. 
  • Dentrix experience is preferred. 
  • Previous experience with HIV and/or Infectious Disease is also preferred
