Description

 

PURPOSE STATEMENT   

A staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional RN who directs and/or performs nursing care to patients assigned to his/her team within the scope of his/her license.  The staff RN reports to the charge nurse on the unit to which he/she is assigned.  This RN must effectively perform, delegate, and coordinate nursing care. The RN must be a patient advocate. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Demonstrate appropriate assessment skills. 
  • Ability to attain and implement orders and treatments in a timely manner. 
  • Implement patient care according to planned interventions to attain the patient’s optimal level of function according to current guidelines. 
  • Document thoroughly and according to policy. 
  • Routinely attend departmental meetings and hospital forums. 
  • Routinely participate in Quality Improvement projects and encourage department to continuously improve. 
  • Utilize time management skills to facilitate the schedule. 
  • Follow hospital policies and procedures. 
  • Assist co-workers as needed/requested. 
  • Appropriate medication administration via electronic bedside medication verification if applicable. 
  • Completion of mandatory department and hospital education. 
  • Promote professionalism by maintaining licensure and optional specialty certification. 
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance. 
  • Expected to serve as sitters as needed, following the successful completion of designated sitter education and training provided. 
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned. 


Requirements

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing. 
  • Currently licensed to practice as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Missouri.   
  • This individual should be knowledgeable regarding growth and development and assessing the physical and psychological needs of patients in all stages of life. 
  • Endoscopy nursing experience preferred. 
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required. 
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS or obtained within orientation. 
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
