ABOUT THE POSITION
Private practice has finally won the WakeMed contract in the Raleigh region which is an exceptional victory for private practice. We are expanding our vibrant team, and we want you to be a part of this exciting transition.
Our physician-led group is currently seeking strong leaders in general anesthesia to provide coverage at WakeMed's three hospitals in the Raleigh area. Day Doc positions are available and so is flexible scheduling.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Prepares and administers general and regional anesthetics and pain medication, adjusting as needed before, during, and after surgery and other procedures.
- Provides anesthesia maintenance and adjustment before, during, and after procedures.
- Maintains patient records.
- Orders diagnostic tests as needed.
- Works closely with surgical specialists.
- Performs venous and arterial punctures.
- Performs pre-anesthesia patient evaluation.
- Provides post-anesthesia care and evaluation.
- Provides and monitors mechanical ventilation.
- Communicate with patients, and their families and caregivers.
- Reacts appropriately to adverse reactions and complications.
- Evaluates patient histories, lab results, and surgical plans to determine an appropriate anesthesia and pain management plan.
- Monitors patient fluid, blood, and electrolyte balance, and other vital signs and critical functions during course of procedures.
- Performs tracheal intubation, airway management, and extubation.
- Monitors patients following procedures to determine when they can be safely moved from one stage of recovery to the next.
- Takes detailed medical history to determine possible allergic or negative reactions to medication.
- Supervises registered nurse anesthetists and other technical staff.
- Mentors and supervises anesthesiology interns, residents, and fellows.
CASEWORK
- Mix of high acuity and general cases. We are flexible with our scheduling and locations. If there is a site preferred over another, let us know and we will be happy to work with you. See casework details below by campus:
- Raleigh (L1 Trauma) - trauma, hearts, peds, ob, endo, ortho, ent, plastics, podiatry, some heads
- North - general, ortho, gyn (and ob), some endo, podiatry and ent
- Cary - general, ortho, eyes, urology, gyn, some endo and podiatry
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Anesthesiologist must be board certified / board eligible.
- Physicians must have a NC license or obtain one. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified individuals.
- Must possess strong leadership skills, be self-motivated, and embrace a culture that values collaboration and teamwork.
