Position Summary:
A well-respected community health center is seeking a dedicated Optometrist to join its team in Los Banos, CA. This provider will play a key role in delivering high-quality vision care, including the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with eye and vision disorders. The Optometrist will provide corrective lenses and manage ocular health conditions within the scope of optometry, working closely with a collaborative healthcare team to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Services

Perform eye exams to evaluate visual acuity, depth and color perception, focus, and coordination.

Diagnose eye diseases and disorders within the optometric scope.

Prescribe and fit eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other visual aids.

Treat eye conditions with medications, as permitted by California law.

Remove foreign bodies from the eye when necessary.

Maintain thorough documentation using Electronic Health Records (EHR) and clinic standards.

Follow-up on chronic conditions, "no-show" appointments, and diagnostic findings.

Review and interpret lab results, referrals, and diagnostic images.

Patient Education & Referrals

Provide health education and coordinate follow-up care.

Refer patients to specialists or support services, including counseling and health education, as needed.

Consult with the Chief Medical Officer or other clinicians for complex cases beyond standardized procedures.

Team Collaboration & Quality Improvement

Participate in peer reviews and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.

Engage in departmental and general staff meetings regularly.

Maintain productive working relationships with internal and external referral sources.

Provide input on resource needs, including equipment, staffing, and facilities.

Meet expected productivity and patient care standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Graduation from an accredited Optometry Program

Licensure:

Valid California Optometry License

Certifications:

Current CPR/BLS certification

Preferred Skills:

Bilingual in English and Spanish

Strong interest in preventative, acute, and chronic care in a community health setting

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Commitment to organizational mission and patient-centered care

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and push up to 50 lbs on wheels

Adequate hearing and vision for clinical tasks and communication

High manual dexterity and mobility, including bending, squatting, standing, kneeling, and reaching
