Inova Health - Sleep Disorders Program is looking for a dedicated Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN) to join the team. This role will be full time day shift from Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN) Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs essential duties necessary to clinic or non-acute operations to include:

    • Phone triage 

    • Care navigation

    • In-basket management 

  • Provides safe/therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way in a physician practice or other outpatient setting. Incorporates differences into the provision of care while integrating knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families to include patient and family education. Achieves desired patient outcomes by using an integrated approach. 

  • Incorporates data and information to improve care and enhances outcomes while ensuring improvements in practice settings. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a resource, preceptor and mentor.

  • Ensures efficiency in the delivery of care. Determines immediate priorities and offers solutions for problems. Works with the team to achieve maximum productivity.

  • Makes independent clinical decisions based on knowledge drawn from education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associates Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.

  • Licensure: RN licensed, or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse.

  • Experience: 0 years of registered nurse clinical experience. 

  • Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse



Responsibilities
  • Perform higher-level clinical assessments and triage, including nuanced symptom evaluation and autonomous patient call management.
  • Recognize and address red flags related to sleep disorders, ensuring timely and appropriate care.
  • Independently manage medication refills and monitor patient responses to therapies, reducing provider workload.
  • Coordinate complex patient care across various specialties, such as cardiology, neurology, and ENT.
  • Assist with quality metrics, protocol development, and audits to ensure high standards of care and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct patient education using motivational interviewing techniques, behavioral coaching, and realistic therapy expectations.
  • Take ownership of workflow processes, train support staff, and help standardize procedures across the program.
  • Provide leadership and support for program development, ensuring efficient and effective care delivery.
  • Maintain strong documentation practices and risk management protocols to ensure patient safety and legal compliance.


Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the state board.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in sleep medicine or a related specialty.
  • Strong knowledge of sleep disorders, their assessment, and management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient interaction and collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage a high volume of patient calls and inquiries.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and relevant software for documentation and patient management.
  • CPR certification is preferred.
  • Willingness to continue professional development and stay updated on the latest advancements in sleep medicine.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a patient-centric approach to care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
