Position Overview:
A healthcare system in Binghamton, NY is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Anatomic Pathologist to serve as Director of Anatomic Pathology. This leadership role will oversee the operations of the Anatomic Pathology Laboratories and report to the Medical Director and Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the laboratory s quality management system to ensure regulatory compliance
Provide continuing education for lab staff related to anatomic pathology
Establish and monitor competency policies for staff, and provide remediation or training as needed
Clearly define technical and administrative responsibilities of lab personnel
Perform and document annual competency assessments for direct reports
Promote and maintain a safe laboratory environment
Ensure the availability and compliance of a procedure manual for all staff
Monitor laboratory operations to ensure accuracy and reliability of data
Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of services rendered across all test sites
Advise physicians on the clinical significance of lab findings and ensure test reports include proper context
Ensure the lab is enrolled in appropriate proficiency testing programs, or has alternate validation methods when needed
Implement corrective action plans for identified deficiencies
Participate in Medical Executive Committee and other institutional or departmental activities in leadership absence
Staff Supervision Includes:
Medical technologists, technicians, and support staff assigned to the department
Oversight of all lab personnel during interim periods, including technical and non-technical staff
Reporting of personnel issues to appropriate section leaders or departments
Qualifications:
MD or DO with a valid New York State medical license
Board Certified or Eligible in Anatomic Pathology
Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) required
Completion of an ACGME-accredited pathology residency program
Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage a multi-site department
Strong focus on quality, safety, and service excellence
Understanding of complex institutional and regulatory environments
Awareness of current healthcare policy and reimbursement issues
Preferred Experience:
Prior general laboratory experience
