OVERVIEW

As a vital member of the clinical team, this role is responsible for accurately dispensing controlled medications prescribed by providers. The position ensures timely medication filling, and fosters clear and concise communication with patients, clinical staff, and medical providers.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Ensure compliance with ACHC specialty pharmacy accreditation standards.
  • Review prescriptions issued by providers to verify accuracy and identify necessary formulas and ingredients needed.
  • Accurately and promptly fill controlled medications as prescribed by healthcare providers.
  • Engage in Medication Therapy Management by reviewing patient medications and offering clinical recommendations based on current medical      guidelines.
  • Provide clear, detailed instructions to patients regarding proper medication usage.
  • Adhere to established procedures for the secure handling of controlled substances and the disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Accurately input data into the information system.
  • Maintain effective communication with clinical staff and healthcare providers.
  • Prepare required reporting, as needed.
  • Pre-authorizes medications as required by payers. 
  • Performs all duties, services and documentation in full compliance with CHC/SEK policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  1. Licensure:  Must hold a current Kansas Pharmacist’s License.
  2. Continuing Education:  Must maintain Continuing Education credits as required.
  3. Experience:  Previous experience is preferred.

  • Clinical Knowledge:  Demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care.
  • Communication:  Proficient in communicating through appropriate channels.  Uses chain of command for patient complaints. Is courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members
  • Crisis Management:  Capable of handling emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Technical Proficiency:  Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office and able to use the internet.
  • Teamwork and Customer Service:  Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with co-workers and healthcare team members.  Demonstrates commitment to customer service in line with the organization’s mission. 
  • Patient Confidentiality: Adhere to patient confidentiality standards as per organizational policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Computer work is frequent. Good lighting and comfortable temperature of ventilation at all times
