Job Description Summary The Physical Therapist Assistant administers physical therapy treatments to assist patients in reaching maximum physical performance while adjusting to disabilities. Assists the Physical Therapist in complex treatments as directed. Job Description The Physical Therapist Assistant: Administers patient therapy programs in accordance with treatment program designed by Physical Therapist. Reports and documents patient's therapy treatments and progress in patient's chart. Instructs patients and their families in appropriate continued exercise or therapy program and in use of therapy devices and aids. Consults with Physical Therapist and other patient care staff regarding patient's condition, progress and treatment program. May participate in conferences and planning sessions with members of the interdisciplinary team. May order patient equipment in consultation with Physical Therapist. Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Reporting Relationships Reports directly to assigned Clinical Manager, Therapy Manager-Innovation Center, Therapy Manager-AbilityLab. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Knowledge of physical therapy treatments and modalities at a level generally acquired through completion of Associate's degree in Applied Science. Licensed in the State of Illinois. Understanding of the growth and development of infant, child, adolescent, and geriatric patients. Ability to interpret growth and development related information to assure patient needs are met. Analytical skills necessary to identify and report changes to patients and family members on treatment programs. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively instruct patients and family members on treatment programs. Ability to lift 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently to transfer and position patients. Working Conditions Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature. Some exposure to infectious diseases when working with patients. May include exposure to community, home, work, school and off-site clinic settings. Includes Saturday and Sunday rotation work.
