JOB TITLE: Advanced Practice Provider – Physician Assistant 

LOCATION: Monday/Thursday Rockville, MD and Tuesday/Wednesday White Oak/Silver Spring, MD

HOURS: M-THURS -  (Closed on Fridays) Full-Time

PAY: $120,000+ annually

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Advanced Practice Provider – Physician Assistant (APP / PA) will evaluate and treat chronic and acute rheumatologic conditions under the supervision of ARA physicians. The APP / PA will perform and / or refer for clinical services such as; ultrasound, labs, x-ray, DEXA, infusion, physical therapy, and other internal and external diagnostic and treatment services. The APP / PA will prescribe medications, and perform office procedures within the scope of practice, protocols, and available equipment.

 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The Advanced Practice Provider – Physician Assistant (APP / PA) will report directly to a Provider

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None

 

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· Requires prolonged standing, walking, sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching.

· Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, and other office and clinical equipment.

· Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record and prepare appropriate documentation.

· Able to push, pull, and lift 100 pounds to assist patient mobility.

 

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

APP / PA will work in a clinical environment and may be exposed to adverse indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, bloodborne pathogens, physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.) and chemical hazards.

 

 

EXAMPLES OF CLINICAL DUTIES: This list may not include all the duties assigned and may be modified as needed.

 

1. Evaluate and treat common rheumatologic conditions in clinic including:

· Osteoarthritis

· Workup for +ANA

· Straightforward RA/PsA

· Osteoporosis

· Gout or other crystalline arthropathies

· Sjogren’s Syndrome

· PMR

· Lupus

· Chronic Neck or Back Pain

· Soft tissue rheumatism (trigger finger, bursitis, tendonitis, epicondylitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc)

· Hypermobility syndrome

· Fibromyalgia

· Raynaud’s phenomenon

 

2. See new ARISE consultations

3. Take phone calls throughout the day, respond to tasks from clinical staff

The responsibilities associated with this position allow access to the computer “role” of “Physician” only.

EDUCATION:

· Successful completion of an approved physician assistant program.

· Current approval by the Board of Medicine to perform medical acts.

· Must currently be licensed as a physician assistant in the state.

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

· No experience necessary as job training will be provided.

· Continuing education for rheumatology-specific knowledge is required.
