Position Summary:

We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Board Eligible or Board Certified Psychiatrist to join a multidisciplinary behavioral health team at a state-operated healthcare facility. The selected candidate will initially be contracted for a 90-day period through a third-party staffing agency, with the opportunity to transition into full-time employment with the State of New Jersey following successful completion of the contract period.

Note: This position requires Board Eligibility or Certification in Psychiatry, in accordance with State of New Jersey mandates.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions in accordance with clinical best practices, legal standards, and patient rights.

  • Lead the development and execution of individualized treatment and discharge plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team.

  • Review patient records, including those involving psychotropic medication use, use of restraints, emergency medication, and legal requirements related to psychiatric care.

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, including psychiatric history, diagnostic testing, and family/social history evaluations.

  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic treatments consistent with approved psychiatric protocols and legal guidelines.

  • Participate in judicial processes such as civil commitment hearings and competency evaluations, and provide court testimony when required.

  • Serve as an active member of the facility s medical staff, participating in regular meetings and continuing medical education (CME) activities.

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records in compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.

  • Provide supervision and guidance to clinical and support personnel involved in patient care.

  • Comply with relevant federal programs such as FDA Risk Evaluation and Management Strategies (REMS) and Medicare/Medicaid enrollment requirements.

Qualifications:

License & Certification Requirements:

  • A current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States. Preference given to candidates holding a valid New Jersey medical license.

  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Psychiatry.

Training Requirements:

  • One (1) year of broad-based clinical training (internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, or a transitional year with at least 4 months of primary care).

  • Plus, three (3) years of full-time post-graduate residency training in an ACGME-accredited psychiatry program; or

  • Completion of a four (4) year ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency program.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must agree to on-site, full-time permanent placement following the initial 90-day contract.

  • Must pass facility credentialing and participate in interviews with clinical leadership.

  • Willingness to work collaboratively with other departments, including primary care and forensic psychiatry.

  • Familiarity or willingness to learn facility-specific electronic health record (EHR) systems.
