Optim Medical Center Tattnall is seeking a full time RN PACU for the Reidsville, GA location

JOB TITLE: RN, PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse)

GENERAL DUTIES:

The nurse who, under the direct supervision of the OR Director and the PACU Manager is responsible for the safety of the patient in the OR department by performing an assessment after the procedure, monitoring, and recovering all orthopedic, spine and/or general surgical patients and then admitting to med surg/ discharging to home.

REPORTING: Reports to the Pre/Post Op Manager/OR Director

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking or other means of mobility for extended periods of time. Must be able to help lift and move patients. Must be able to carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

May be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1. Performs physical assessments on patients following surgery immediately upon arrival to PACU

2. Documents assessment in the PACU on EMR.

3. Reports any medical problems to anesthesia, surgeon, and manager

4. Monitors vital signs until fully recovered

5. Medications given as needed per orders to control pain, nausea, vomiting, etc.

6. Patient monitored closely for reaction and complications and steps taken quickly to prevent complications

7. Assessments made of reactions and recovery from orthopedic nerve blocks

8. Assessments made of surgical site for swelling, redness, drainage, bleeding, or any other problems

9. Surgical post-operative calls made

10. Performs surgical chart audits

11. Maintains patient confidentiality, patient dignity, patient rights, and serves as a patient advocate at all times.

12. Provides education for the patient and family regarding procedure, medication, etc.

13. Assessing the condition of patients, monitoring the condition of patients and providing orthopedic treatments and administering medication.

14. Provide care to patients who have recently undergone orthopedic, spinal or general procedures.

15. Performs all other duties assigned by the OR Manager.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Knowledge of principles and practices of Post anesthesia care

2. Knowledge of medications

3. Knowledge of common safety measures needed to maintain a safe work environment.

4. Skill in use of various forms of office machines, fax, computer, copy machine.

5. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and nursing personnel.

6. Ability to communicate clearly.

7. Maintain current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATION, LICENSING:

· Graduate from an accredited school of nursing

· Current license as a RN

· Current CPR Certification

· ACLS and PALS required

· Minimum of 8 hours of orthopedic specific training required annually
