Job Summary:
The RN Physician Practice is an ambassador and point of contact for practices and patients in our community. The RN provides comprehensive and integrated patient care and nursing services, prevention, and educational programs. Ensures all patients receive evidence-based and highest quality standard of medical care expected in medical practice. Provides clinical support, direction, and guidance and is a resource to MA’s on the clinical staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
- Responsible for practicing within the scope of an RN or LPN license to practice in the State of Maine and maintaining confidentiality as required by the legal and ethical framework of nursing and health care.
- Demonstrates basic critical thinking skills.
- Performs nursing components of a comprehensive screening on initial visits.
- Performs telephone and office medical triage or clinical information gathering of patients requiring urgent attention.
- Evaluates, monitors, and provides nursing care.
- Conduct a nursing assessment as part of comprehensive care according to licensure.
- Educates patients in various subjects depending on location of care, as needed.
- Assists with quality review of records.
- Provide support and guidance for other members of the clinical support team.
- Evaluate and refer patients to other programs and providers.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and revise the plan as needed.
- Perform motivational interviewing and teach-back methodology for patient goal setting and education.
- Demonstrates competence and knowledge in clinical areas of practice.
- Demonstrates the ability to obtain accurate vitals.
- Clearly and accurately document the reason for the visit, vital signs, and other information in the patient’s charts. Signs and dates all chart documentation as appropriate.
- Coordinates patient flow for provider rooms.
- Assess the physical, psychological, and social dimension of the patient according to licensure.
- Implements medical plans as directed by the provider.
- Administers intramuscular and subcutaneous injections accurately and documents accordingly.
- Assists the provider with surgical procedures.
- Under the direction of the provider, contact patients regarding abnormal results and provide direction as appropriate.
- Serves as triage for all medical calls and determines the plan according to licensure.
- Serves as a clinical resource person for staff and patients.

- Provide clinical support and act as a resource, working at the top of licensure, to other clinical staff in the care team.
- Provide education/teaching opportunities to clinical staff in the care team.
- Maintain high visibility with providers, and clinical team throughout the day.
- Assist in new staff orientation as assigned.
- Adheres to all local, state, and federal rules and regulations applicable to nursing, and SMRMC policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate in departmental staff meetings.
- Develops and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and office staff demonstrating exceptional customer service.
- Ortho Practice - Will work with surgical patients who have had joint replacements and abide by the standards of care set forth by St. Mary's Hip & Knee Replacement Interdisciplinary Team.
Will complete the required amount of education specific to hip and knee replacement as outlined by St. Mary's Hip & Knee Replacement Interdisciplinary Team which follows DNV Hip and Knee Replacement Program requirements.
- Maintains required licenses, certifications, and competencies, and completes annual compliance courses on time.

Education and Experience
- Current Maine RN license required.
- Basic Life Support certification required.
- Graduate of an approved Nursing program required.
- One to three years of Clinical Office RN experience preferred.

Comp Range:
$30.32 - $41.76
