Job Description :
Methodist Health System is seeking a dedicated and experienced Transplant Psychologist to join the Abdominal Transplant Program team at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. The Transplant Psychologist will provide psychological assessments, counseling, and support to transplant candidates, recipients, and their families throughout the transplant process. This role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the holistic care of patients, focusing on both their psychological and emotional well-being.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution
- Certification in Health Psychology or Clinical Health Psychology is preferred
- Licensed as a psychologist in the state of Texas
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably with transplant or chronic illness populations.
- Experience with substance use disorders is preferred.
- Certification in Health Psychology or Clinical Health Psychology is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong clinical skills in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment approaches (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT).
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of the psychological and emotional aspects of transplantation, chronic illness, and substance use disorders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments of transplant candidates, evaluating their emotional readiness, coping mechanisms, and potential risk factors that may impact post-transplant outcomes.
- Provide pre- and post-transplant counseling and psychotherapy to patients and their families to support them through the challenges associated with transplantation.
- Develop individualized care plans and interventions to address the psychological needs of patients, including those with complex psychiatric, substance use, and medical histories.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, hepatologists, nephrologists, social workers, dietitians, and nurses, to ensure integrated care and support for transplant patients.
- Participate in pre-transplant evaluation meetings to provide psychological expertise and recommendations for patient selection.
- Offer crisis intervention services for patients and families experiencing emotional distress or other psychological emergencies related to the transplant process.
- Facilitate support groups for transplant patients and their families, creating a safe space for sharing experiences, challenges, and coping strategies.
- Educate transplant team members on the psychological aspects of transplant care, including stress management techniques, coping strategies, and the impact of mental health on physical recovery.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, documenting psychological evaluations, treatment plans, and progress.
- Assist with program development, quality improvement initiatives, and research projects aimed at enhancing patient care and transplant outcomes.
- Stay updated with the latest evidence-based practices in transplant psychology and integrate them into clinical practice.
