The Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School in conjunction with the UT Health Austin, is seeking a
fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon to join the growing
Division of Orthopaedic Surgery within our
Musculoskeletal Institute (MSK).
We are recruiting for a full-time academic surgeon at the
Assistant or Associate Professor level, with a commitment to advancing value-based healthcare delivery, education, and research. The ideal candidate will be passionate about multidisciplinary collaboration, academic inquiry, and serving a diverse and often underserved patient population.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will join a thriving MSK Institute practice with a unique dual focus:
- Delivering care in a cutting-edge, multidisciplinary outpatient clinic and ambulatory surgery center
- Maintaining a tertiary referral practice at Dell Seton Medical Center for complex and high-acuity hand conditions
Resident education is central to this role, and active participation in the Orthopaedic Surgery residency program is expected. This position also offers opportunities to collaborate with a community of experienced volunteer faculty and engage in
shared research and educational initiatives.
What You ll Do:- Serve as the clinical and academic lead in Hand Surgery within the Department and the MSK Institute
- Build and lead an Integrated Practice Unit (IPU) team, including physical therapists, APPs, social workers, and dietitians
- Provide care for a broad spectrum of hand conditions, including complex tertiary/quaternary referrals
- Train and mentor medical students and residents in clinical care and evidence-based practice
- Collaborate with volunteer hand faculty on research and academic projects
- Contribute to the growth and strategic direction of the MSK Institute and the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery
- Participate in the development of quality improvement and outcomes tracking infrastructure
- Cultivate partnerships with local and regional referring physicians and providers
- Support Dell Med s mission of innovation through collaboration with other UT Austin schools and departments
Qualifications:- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- Board certified or board eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery
- Fellowship training in Hand Surgery
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Texas
- Eligible for faculty appointment at Dell Medical School at the Assistant or Associate Professor level
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical teaching and patient care
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary academic environment
- Commitment to academic, educational, and clinical excellence
Preferred:- Experience working in or leading a multidisciplinary care team
- Interest in value-based care delivery, population health, and health system transformation
- Strong interest or experience in clinical, translational, or implementation research
